Renovation Status Report April/May 2025
A great deal of activity has occurred since our April report. Recent highlights:
- At the most recent meeting of the Winchester Board of Architectural Review, ESa and GELC received approval of all proposed exterior modifications to the façade of the A&E building, along with the future connections to the GMOC and Sanctuary.
- On Thursday April 17, 2025, a group including representatives from ESa, Warfel, RTM Management, the Pastors, and the Renovation Task Group leadership team toured the A&E building.
- During a subsequent meeting, the construction budget was finalized. This budget will be incorporated into the overall project budget for presentation on Tuesday April 22, 2025, to the Renovation Task Group and upon their recommendation, to the Congregation Council. Upon Council approval, our long-term goal reaches its next critical stage: the creation of Construction Documents sufficient to submit for permitting to begin construction. This approval was given April 22, 2025.
- The current schedule has ESa finalizing the Construction Documents and Warfel submitting them to the City of Winchester in early July for review and permitting. If this schedule holds, the construction will begin in earnest in mid-September with an anticipated duration of eleven months.
- In the coming months, adults and youth will be invited to sign up for small group tours of the A&E building to see the point from which this construction journey begins (the building is not safe for children at this time. All adults are encouraged to participate.
- The completed interior demolition has revealed the great bones of our 100-year old building and offers a jaw-dropping preview of what the future finished construction has in store for us. It is amazing to see and exciting to imagine the life of the congregation within these new spaces!
